Why I won't be smiling for 18-24 months....

Well, third times a charm, right?

That's right....I am a metal mouth for the THIRD time in my life. Did the normal Jr. High stint with braces, got them off in 8th grade. Wore the retainers, but had a tongue thrust that pushed my front teeth out a bit. Got them a second time right before high school (I made my crazy orthodontist who called me "lassie" promise they would come off before high school). Wore my retainers. End of college....during a rather significant bout of stress, my jaw pops and I get TMJ. This requires a specialist and physical therapy that involved taping up my back, shoe inserts, and relaxation CD's. It also screwed up my teeth again.

So here I am...age 36 in braces. I should have done it years ago, but kept putting it off. Pregnancy and braces would have marked me as the elephant man. I did spring for the porcelain ones, but still, not a good look for me.

No nuts, gummy bears, and caramel. But I did have a milkshake for dinner!

My sister-in-law did pregnancy and braces at the same time... Her idea was to get the ugly all done with at once. I hope you enjoy lots more milkshakes!

o.k. when I saw your comment on facebook I thought it was a "metaphorical" type thing....but really....braces?!?! Good luck! I really should get some again too, my bottom teeth have never been right even after braces and a couple of my top teeth are starting to crowd one another again. Good luck!!!

Josh will be thrilled to know that he has another relative with braces! He just got them on the bottom. Good luck!

There must be something in the water. You are my third friend this week to get braces. (All adults!)

I may spring for them as well in the hopes that I will lose some weight from not being able to eat.
